Nursing Home Compare Data Sources May 6, 2014September 24, 20180 Nursing Home Compare allows consumers to compare information about nursing homes. It contains quality of care information on every Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing home in the country, including over 15,000 nationwide. The data comes from the CMS Health Inspection database and the National database known as the Minimum Data Set, which measure ratings on overall care, health inspection and staffing. All of these data are reported by the nursing homes themselves. Nursing home inspectors review it, but don’t formally check it to ensure accuracy. Users can search by location (city, zip code, or state) or nursing home name, drill down to individual nursing homes and view their ratings, contact information and location on a map. There is ample information on the data, how it was collected and the meanings behind the ratings. The site also provides resources on how choosing a nursing home. Datasets can be downloaded into CSV zip files. Link: https://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/ Are you using this data source? Share your experience with it by leaving a reply below!
